Natural History Museum: Mindful Stitching Workshop

July 13, 2023 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

$25

On Thursday, July 13th, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm come to the natural history museum to experience this exiting workshop.

Explore using stitch, fabric and natural materials as mindful practice. In this class we will create small fibre collage pieces as a way to engage spontaneously in a creative process. After this workshop, you may look at and experience garden debris – seed pods, sticks, lichen, leaves – in a different way! Interest in sewing is a plus, but no extensive experience is necessary. All tools and materials provided. Feel free to bring small, dried plant matter from your garden or neighbourhood to add to your work.

Taught by Nora Ready, she/her, is a fibre artist living in Saanich, traditional territory of the Lək ̓wəŋən and W̱ SÁNEĆ people. She has a strong interest in slow stitch, botanical printing and dyeing, mindful practice, and collaborative art. She is a member of the Fibre Art Network (FAN), a cooperative network of Western Canadian fibre artists. One of her slow stitch pieces, Cellular Stitch, is currently featured in a FAN travelling exhibit, Up Close.
