Hornby Island has many year-round employment and self-employment opportunities. Some of our residents re-trained or started new careers when they moved to Hornby, while a small number of “commuters” maintain their careers off-island. The number of “remote workers” have increased since the Island received high speed, fibre-optic internet. Many residents earn their incomes from multiple sources. Customer Service – taking orders and payments. Experience with POS is a plus but we are great trainers.

Hornby Island Co-op
A community owner retailer servicing the Hornby Island Community. Includes a grocery store, a hardware department, a liquor outlet, a Canada Post outlet, and a gas bar and convenience store outlet. We employ approx. 35 year-round employees and an additional 15-20 more in Summer. Retail work includes handling inbound freight, restocking shelves, some cashier till work, and general store processes as needed.
Non-management positions in the grocery/hardware store are unionized part of UFCW 1518. Flexible shifts and hours of employment. Health benefits and a RRSP plan is available for full time workers.
