Natural History Museum: Introduction to Birds of BC

Ever wonder what birds are found in your backyard and around Hornby Island? This presentation will go over how to get started with birding, an overview of the birds you can find in BC, an introduction to some projects that are happening around Vancouver Island and what you can do to attract and help birds in your own backyards.
Heidi van Vliet is a biologist and avid birder from Vancouver Island who has worked on several bird conservation and research projects. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Vancouver Island University and her Master of Science at York University where she studied the impacts of agriculture on breeding Savannah Sparrows. She was born and raised on Vancouver Island, and has been visiting Hornby Island since she was a child. Heidi loves spending time outdoors birding, nature journaling, hiking and skiing.
Cost: Sliding scale: $10 – $20 for adults. Children attend free. Refreshments provided.
