Sara Vipond

Sara Vipond is an artist and educator whose interdisciplinary practice spans ceramics, drawing, video, sound, and print media. Her work is rooted in material inquiry and an ongoing exploration of how handmade objects shape human experience. Through a sensitivity to form, surface, and process, she investigates the ways objects mediate attention, gesture, and the subtle rhythms of daily life.

She holds an MFA from York University, an Honours BA Specialist in Art & Art History with a Minor in Gender Studies from the University of Toronto, a Studio Diploma from Sheridan College, and a Ceramics Certificate from the Kootenay School of Art. Sara has taught studio and academic courses at York University, Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and North Island College.

Working from her studio on Hornby Island, BC, she develops ceramic works that emerge from repetition, material responsiveness, and a commitment to thoughtful making. Her practice is guided by the belief that handmade objects carry a distinct kind of knowledge—one shaped through touch, time, and embodied engagement. She is drawn to ceramics for its grounding pace and its capacity to hold meaning through use, creating pieces that support intentional living and deepen the connection between object, body, and environment.
