Rae Maté

Rae Maté is a painter and illustrator and a long-time summer resident of Hornby Island. Her colourful, distinctive work is inspired by nature, family and the everyday world, often approached with warmth, humour and a wonderfully lively imagination.

Rae is also known for her much-loved Crocodile Creatures, expressive and engaging characters that have appeared in a series of children’s books. Her work ranges from these playful illustrations to paintings that reflect her keen observation of people, place and the natural world.
