Marc Atkinson is an award-winning guitarist, composer, multi-instrumentalist and producer, and leader of the internationally acclaimed Marc Atkinson Trio. He is also a co-founder, composer and performer with The Bills, whose work has earned two JUNO nominations and multiple Western Canadian Music Awards.

Marc’s virtuosic, melodic playing draws from jazz, folk, roots and gypsy jazz and has taken him throughout North America, England and Europe. His composition “Vorizo” won second place in the instrumental category of the 2010 International Acoustic Music Awards; Marc Atkinson Trio III was nominated for a Western Canadian Music Award, and Acoustic Guitar Magazine named Marc Atkinson Trio II one of the top five albums of the year in North America.

Marc and Deirdre Atkinson, longtime Executive Director of the Hornby Festival, raised their two sons on Hornby in a musical family where creativity is part of everyday life. Marc continues to tour and perform widely, teaches guitar both in person and online, and operates The Barn Studio, a recording studio on Hornby available to other musicians as well as for his own work.

Through performing, composing, recording, producing and teaching, Marc has built an accomplished international career while remaining deeply connected to the musical life of Hornby Island.
