Cliff-Top Retreat

  • Accommodates: 6 guests
  • Open: June to September
  • Minimum Stay: 1 week
  • Contact: Jo Lechay

Designed in 1998 by noted Blue Sky architect Michael McNamara, this singular, cozy dwelling is built on the Island’s heights overlooking sea, sky and mountains and backed by deep woods. It has one of Hornby Island’s most peaceful yet breathtaking views.

Our home has an arching sod roof, a 14’ ceiling, floor-to ceiling windows and a 48’-long wrap-around deck. Two intimate 20’x12’ rooms, plus a 12’x10’ loft provide three sleeping spaces for up to six people.

The main living space has a fully-equipped modern galley kitchen and dining area with a futon couch that converts easily into a queen-size bed. It is adjoined by a full bathroom with an over-sized tiled shower.

A stair-ladder leads to the open sleeping loft above, with its double futon and spectacular view.

The connected “studio”, with its separate outside entrance, has a double futon and provides a completely private sleeping/lounging/living space, with high, wide views of the forest on three sides.

Linens, blankets, pillows and towels are provided and a washer/dryer is available, as is wireless internet. We have an extensive collection of books, videos (DVD and VHS), CDs and games. Water is carbon and sediment-free and is UV-filtered.

On the deck are a barbecue, table, chairs and recliners – with soaring eagles at eye-level and deer browsing in the meadow below (though not on demand). A mosaic table at the bottom of the property, overlooking the cliff and water, is ideal for morning coffee or before-dinner drinks.

Cliff-top Retreat is private and serene, yet minutes away from all the Island’s attractions. It is ideal for a single family.

Note: Not recommended for small children because of adjacent cliff.

Please, no dogs, cats, smoking, tents or campers.

Area Attractions

We are minutes away from three superb beaches, Helliwell Park, hiking trails, tennis courts, markets and shopping, a pub, cafés and restaurants, as well as community events: Farmer’s Market, festivals, concerts, movies, dances, jazz, art and craft shows and recreational activities for children.
