Moving to Hornby

Calling Hornby Island Home

Living on Hornby is a unique experience. Everyday moments are infused with the splendour of the island’s beautiful setting while the island’s strong sense of community allows for the kind of meaningful connection rare in these busy times.

Newcomers

Moving to Hornby is a life-changing decision, and possibly the best you may make! Hornby Island extends a particular welcome to young families wishing to raise children on this magical island. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you need to discuss plans, dreams, and obstacles—we’ll do our best to point you in the right direction.

For those planning to buy a home, please contact our real estate agents. If you are planning to renovate or build, make sure to check the appropriate bylaws and apply for relevant permits. You can view Island Trust guidelines here

Renters

Year-round renting on Hornby can be a challenge with limited long-term accommodation available. The community is aware of our tight market, which we are working to remediate through a variety of means, including a new affordable housing development at Beulah Creek Village. People looking for rental accommodation can benefit from the HIRRA Housing Committee, who can help you develop a profile or introduce you to owners.

If you are staying for a few weeks or months, many vacation rentals may be able to accommodate you.

Property Owners

Property owners are required to follow Island Trust bylaws in developing and maintaining their lands. All information related to bylaws and requirements can be found here.

If you are interested in providing a year-round or winter rental opportunity, please view useful information here, and feel free to contact us for advice and support.
