Hornby Island attracts musicians from an incredible diversity of genres. From Friday night jazz at the Thatch, to reggae, marimba and The Songbirds, there’s something to appeal to everyone. During the summer you can enjoy free concerts at Pizza Galore every Wednesday and Sunday evening. Beulah Creek Nursery and Carbrea winery will be hosting some performances again this summer. And the Thatch is increasing their musical offerings this year as well. Watch for show announcements on the events calendar.

The Hornby Festival is the premier 10-day indoor/outdoor event of the summer.

The Hornby Island Blues Society is known for hosting the fantastic ‘Blues Week’ workshop in May and for other blues events throughout the year.

Marc Atkinson is one of Canada’s finest JUNO-nominated, Western Canadian award-winning musicians. He is the leader and composer of the internationally renowned Marc Atkinson Trio, and co-founder, composer and performer in the acclaimed, The Bills. The Barn Studio is Marc Atkinson’s venue for producing and teaching the music he loves.

Kim June Johnson is a Canadian singer-songwriter and poet. Her third album, Canvas & Clay, was released in the fall of 2014. It was nominated for two Vancouver Island Music Awards including “Album of the Year,” and it won “Vocalist of the Year”. It was also chosen by Indie Acoustic Project as one of the top 21 Independently released albums of 2014.

Tony Wilson is a renowned composer and jazz guitarist who performs most Friday nights at the Thatch pub with Dana Inglis on bass, Darryl Bohn on drums and Annie Siegel on piano.

The Songbirds is a six-piece band with great three-part harmonies, lush guitar and bass, and lots of energy! You can catch them this summer at the Thatch Pub on June 23, July 14, July 30, August 18, and the third Thursday of each month throughout the winter (Burgers ‘N’ Birds!).

The Rudiments is a six-piece band performing positive old-school Jamaican-style soul, reggae, ska, dub, and lovers’ rock.

Rosehips is a women’s folk group with lovely harmony vocals and tasteful backing strings (mandolin, cello, guitar, flute).

Amani Marimba perform uplifting, high energy African rhythms. They are one of the most popular acts at the Bakery in the summer.
