Hornby Island has many year-round employment and self-employment opportunities, but it may appear difficult at first to secure your niche without an understanding of how the island functions and what drives employment demand. Some of our residents re-trained or started new careers when they moved to Hornby, and amost residents derive their incomes from multiple sources, while striving for work/life balance. Our top employment sectors are the Arts, Construction, Education/Health, and Accommodation/Food. The Farmer’s Market is a great incubator for testing new product ideas, and we have over 100 small businesses that operate on Hornby, in addition to a few “commuters” that maintain their careers remotely or off-island.
