Through the course of chance encounters and connections I moved to Hornby in the early ’70s. I have consistently found it an enriching and inspirational milieu, and have expressed it via the mediums of drawing, music, stained glass and most recently, photography.
I have always considered that being an adept and capable photographer was less about knowing the rules and guidelines than it was about knowing oneself. My main photographic intent is not so much about learning the tools of photography (although a rudimentary understanding IS necessary), but learning to see and say something with them!
I think the real endeavour of the photographer is to be present and be ever mindful of the visual voice.
I enjoy all aspects of taking photos and sometimes they even turn out decently!
The motto that I follow is: “Photograph for yourself, be observant and aim for imaginative originality… but above all have fun… and if someone else enjoys the result, that’s a bonus.”
