Garden Gate Eco House

This beautifully sculpted 3-bedroom open concept straw bale home was completely rebuilt in 2015 and features the finest in Hornby Island craftsmanship. The fully equipped gourmet kitchen features a 36 inch Wolf gas range, a Bosch dishwasher, a double enamel farmhouse sink, butcher block and stainless steel counters. The bathing room features a long clawfoot tub and walk-in shower (our water is not sulfuric and tastes great). In floor heating as well as a cozy woodstove bring luxury in all seasons. The house has a downstairs king-sized bedroom and the upstairs has two open-concept bedrooms – one with a custom-made queen-sized bed and the other with queen bottom and double upper bunk beds and a private deck. An abundance of natural lighting, exquisite wood finishing throughout, vaulted ceilings, beautiful alder flooring, sky lights, stained and leaded glass windows which send rainbows everywhere and natural plaster walls all add to the charm of this home. Double french doors open onto one of the two second floor decks with a hanging love seat and potted flowers overlooking the meadow. The dining area has double french doors that open out to the front garden and outside eating area. It was built for living luxury rather than for rental, so has the finest quality of everything. Sitting in the middle of a meadow, the house has an open, sunny charm at the same time as great privacy from the road offered by an abundance of salmon and blackberry bushes, maple and alder trees. Sitting on the edge of the Sandpiper area, the property neighbours a private forest at the back. Deer, eagles and other wildlife visit the garden daily. Our friendly cats roam the property freely.
